She was a designer, singer and performer and broke barriers in the music industry. She was an Mexican American performer who was both traditional and modern. She united both worlds and helped bring Tejano music into the mainstream. Her untimely death splintered her rising profile and as often happens when a bright deeply genial star dies far too young has left many mourning every potential that was not fully realized. Fans have been inspired over time to dig to work even more to ensure that her achievements are not forgotten. Her death in a shooting triggered emotion in Latino society that could be similar to Elvis Presley, and John Lennon. Selena was an extremely well-known Latino artist throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of younger and more mature adults. Selena was an asexual and flamboyant stage performer and was often known as the Latina Madonna. Off-stage Selena was an excellent role model since she participated actively in antidrug and AIDS campaigns.
